"
I have been a firefighter for 18+ years. I developed lower back pain approximately 5 years ago, and finally needed corrective surgery in July 2001. Terry Roach came highly recommended from a co-worker with the fire department. Once I was able to start rehab and strengthening with Terry and her staff and utilizing body stabilization techniques and education, I was able to resume all of my activities professionally and recreationally (i.e. golfing, backpacking). Terry’s knowledge and dedication to fitness and wellness have been the most vital part of my recovery and success these past 2 years."

"My original
problem was a hip dislocation while I was
jogging through the Grand Canyon. This was a
last training run prior to the San Francisco
marathon. Fortunately you were able to work
me into your schedule within the next two
days. You diagnosed my hip instability and
had me up and running in my marathon in
three weeks. One of my personal best run
times. I continued to train and participated
in several adventure races. I still practice
the techniques you taught me in how to move
and hold my body to prevent any further
injury to my musculoskeletal system.
My job as a
dentist lends itself to many hours curled
over a dental chair. I am convinced your
help and technique has kept me from further
destroying my body while I work and continue
training for my next marathon this weekend.
The shear positioning of my skeletal system
can make or brake me during work or running,
bicycling kayaking etc. I am still amazed at
how quickly developing core body strength
eases the tension in my joints, back and
neck muscles."

"Five years ago
I was diagnosed with sciatic nerve
impingement due to lower lumbar stenosis of
my vertebral column. The pain in my left leg
was unbearable when sitting and barely
tolerable when standing. Numerous doctor
visits, physical therapy sessions, three
epidurals, and acupuncture treatments
offered no relief. A doctor specializing in
pain management recommended trying Terry
Roach at Body Stabilization
Training. After about four weeks ,
three times weekly, of core strengthening,
relearning correct postures, and proper
movement the pain subsided. I still work out
with Terry- she has taught me a new life
style. I'm still pain free and stronger than
ever which allows me to participate at a
very competitive level of senior softball."

"My introduction to Terry
Roach and Body Stabilization
Training came through a physician’s
referral. I had attended an HMO-administered
physical therapy program that did little to
reduce major sciatic pain. Epidural
injections had been effective for a few
months. Unfortunately, their effects were
beginning to wear off, and I was drifting
back to my pre-treatment status. When I
questioned my orthopedist about
participating in another therapy program, he
said simply, “she is different!” This is a
highly regarded orthopedist that I
absolutely trust, so I decided to give it a
try.
After a year in a successful
exercise treatment program by Terry
Roach, my pain had dropped from as high
as eight (out of ten) to zero-to-two. The
program was so successful that I began to
wonder if others at my workplace, Phoenix
Public Library, could take advantage of many
of these principles and techniques.
Libraries tend to be hotbeds of ergonomic
issues, with most staff working at computer
stations and/or performing repetitive manual
work.
The large number of people who registered
and attended the first program was
surprising. The program received unanimous
praise – more so than any other kind of
training offered over two decades. Staff who
missed the first program soon realized their
loss and pressed for a repeat. Additional
programs followed, which were also well
attended and received highest marks. In her presentations, Terry
used actual workplace furniture as props to
illustrate destructive and good work habits.
She presented a thorough, entertaining
overview of body mechanics, and touched on
the poor habits that people typically
develop, which result in physical damage and
distress. She then outlined several good
habits and techniques that people can use
daily to prevent back-related problems and
repetitive stress injuries. In addition,
Terry visited several work locations and
provided valuable advice to correct
problems. The audience learned that
avoidance of ergonomics-related workplace
injuries is a responsibility shared by
management and staff. Many of the people who
attended these “one-shot” programs benefited
by changing their habits and beginning to
follow Terry’s advice concerning posture,
body mechanics, and exercise techniques.
Several enrolled in Terry’s program. Ever
since those presentations, my e-mail inbox
continued to receive expressions of thanks
from people whose lives had been changed by
this program. There are very few people to
whom one can point as having changed their
lives permanently for the better. For me,
and for many of my colleagues, Terry, with
her unique and successful approach, is one
of those special people.

"BST gave me an awareness of how common movements, such as walking, lifting objects, and riding my bike can be done in a way to prevent aggravation and pain. If my back feels achy I am able to stretch and modify repetitive motions to prevent temporary aches from becoming chronic pain or injury. I have been able to return to normal activities and quality of life."

I have and would recommend BST to anyone who wants to change their life and live pain free."

"Thanks to Terry’s program, I see light at the end of my long enduring tunnel. I still do all my training and races, and now have the new found knowledge of what I need to implement into my world of fitness. I do not want to regress back to what this injury used to be. “Terry’s classes provided me with the education and knowledge to protect my back and strengthen the muscles of my core. This information and guidance inspired me to show my patients these same techniques. Since then I have seen many people benefit and heal through core strength. Terry Roach is a fabulous educator and role model. She has experienced disc pain herself and knows how to help others with similar injuries.”
